Course History:
Dick Bailey designed this magnificent course that stretches out over nearly 7000 yards. It was carved into the Mohawk Valley and the natural terrain makes for a game that is challenging for all players but plenty of fun. Professionals may have a bit of an advantage, but this is certainly a course that is enjoyable for players of all skill levels.
What You Need to Know:
The staff at Whitehawk are incredibly friendly and the course is known as one of the nicest in the area. Tee times can be reserved by calling the number listed above. The prices are incredibly reasonable given the costs of most of the other courses in this area but they also have specials for residents. We recommend checking their website for specials before booking your time.
The fees include the use of a golf cart and we recommend taking them up on the offer. The terrain can be a bit challenging at times and it's nice to have the benefit of a cart at your disposal. They do ask that visitors refrain from bringing their own alcoholic beverages - but these can be purchased at the course.
There is a dress code for both men and women. Men are asked to wear collared shirts with sleeves and appropriate slacks. Shorts are allowed as long as they are knee length. Denim is allowed if it is in good shape and nicely pressed. Women must wear appropriate golfing shirts, and any skirts or shorts must be longer than mid-thigh.
Playing Hints:
Many of the fairways are sloped and it can be difficult to get a shot you're happy with on many holes. What seems like a great shot will be made a lot worse after the ball rolls down the hill. We recommend working on your long game as well as your accuracy to make the most of this course. When there is a slope, try to aim a little in the opposite direction so that you minimize the amount of roll.
The natural terrain is challenging and will require the use of all of your clubs. There are a few water hazards, but nothing that is terribly difficult to surmount. The bunkers however are quite challenging and they are sprinkled throughout the course. You'll want to do your best to avoid them since the sand is quite deep and nearly impossible to get out of.
