Crystal Springs Golf Course is located in Burlingame, CA
Phone: (650) 342-4188

Course History:
This is a very historic course that was designed by William Herbert Fowler, a British course architect of great renown. It was first opened in 1924 and became an instant favorite. It has certainly withstood the test of time and is heavily played to this day. The course is known for its incredible amount of wildlife, numbering more than 61 species of birds, numerous deer and even a bobcat or two.
What You Need to Know:
You can book your tee time online or by calling the pro shop. This is a very nice facility and we recommend wearing a collared shirt and slacks. This is a soft spike facility, so please change out any metal spikes before you arrive. The pro shop here is top notch and is completely stocked with just about everything you could ever want. The Pub and Grill is beyond fantastic and overall, this is definitely one of the nicest courses in the area.
Playing Hints:
This is considered to be a true championship course so you will need to bring your best game. It's a little longer than 6600 yards and we highly recommend taking the cart option. The sixth hole is famous, or infamous, take your pick. It's a common site for weddings, due to the several hundred foot drop off between the tee and the green. You'll want to hit a very long drive off the tee if you want to do well on this hole.
The dogleg on the tenth hole is quite a challenge, but if you can hit it long, you'll do just fine. The fifteenth hole is deceptively easy, but if you give this one too much power, you'll end up surrounded by trees. Give this one a soft shot off the tee and then iron in for greater accuracy.
The eighteenth hole is your chance to even up your score. It's a long par five, but with a good drive you can easily get a birdie. Just watch out for the sloping green that can really ruin your score.

Course History:
This is a terrific course on a resort that is still open to the public. If you're looking for a challenging round set in a beautiful location, this is the perfect course. Since it opened it became incredibly popular with the locals and the stay and play packages have since made it a favorite among guests. Overall, given the green fees and the amenities, this is truly a great value.
What You Need to Know:
There are numerous lesson plans available here and it is a great place to go if you're new to the game or want to get a few tips on improving your score. They offer an eclub that features even lower rates on their already cheap green fees and the pro shop is incredibly well stocked.
You can book your tee time by calling the number above, but we recommend checking their site first. They do run frequent specials and they have several offers that are well worth checking out.
We recommend wearing traditional golf attire since this is a resort course. They don't specifically state that there is a dress code, but it is best to respect the course and err on the side of caution. The practice facilities are really top-notch and at the end of the day, the grill is the perfect place to relax. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
Playing Hints:
This is a course that is well planned out and offers just enough of a challenge to give pros a good game while not being terribly intimidating to a novice. The terrain is a bit challenging at times and we recommend a cart unless you're in terrific shape. There are plenty of hazards that keep the game fun, so you're best bet is to try to aim for the center of the fairway with most of the holes.
The eighteenth hole is a real killer, but if you've got a great drive, you should be able to get a birdie without a problem.

Cherry Island Golf Course is located in: Elverta, CA

Website: http://www.empiregolf.com/empire/cherryisland
Course History:
Robert Muir Graves, one of the most celebrated course archtitects today designed this course in 1990. It has become an area favorite with most golfers and offers just the right level of challenging play for golfers of all skill levels. The course is lush and scenic and is a great place to relax and get away from it all. It is tucked away, so we included directions on how to get to the course below.
What You Need to Know:
This is truly a full service golf course with a great grill, pro shop and lessons. The practice facility is terrific and offers numerous opportunities to improve on your game. This is a public course but we still recommend wearing appropriate golf attire.
You can register your tee time by calling the number above, but you may want to check out their website as they post frequent specials to save on their already reasonable green fees.
Playing Hints:
Water hazards are plentiful here and there are a few that are quite tricky. The first hole is clear of these but the sharp dog leg will definitely test your skills. The third, fourth, sixth and seventh holes all feature large lakes, so you'll want to try to be as accurate as possible on your tee shots.
The thirteenth hole is bisected by a creek, so you'll need to watch your tee shot here. Some players may prefer to hit it short and then iron over the creek to be on the safe side. The eighteenth hole is no gimme and meanders along with plenty of rough patches to keep you guessing. This one will take some time to master, but you should be able to birdie it with practice. This is a long course so we really recommend making use of a cart unless you are in tip top shape.
