Woodcreek Golf Club is located in: Roseville, CA
Phone: (916) 771-4662
Website: http://www.roseville.ca.us/parks/golf_roseville
Course History:
This championship course was designed by the celebrated Robert Muir Groves and is incredibly challenging and yet fun to play. Since the course opened in 1995 it became an instant hit and is the frequent site of tournaments throughout the year.
What You Need to Know:
This is really a full service golf course with a terrific grill, well stocked pro shop and great practice facilities. You can work on your drives well into the night thanks to their lit practice area and the prices are very reasonable. You can book a tee time online and they frequently post specials on their website. We recommend this option for even greater savings over their already low prices.
The course does not have a strict dress code, and proper shorts are allowed. We do however recommend a collared shirt and slacks unless the temperatures are really high.
Playing Hints:
The water hazards here are so tough you should probably know how to swim before starting your round. All kidding aside, this is a challenging course, but is possible to master. You may need a few rounds to get some of these holes down, but overall, it's a lot of fun to try.
The first hole has a nice dogleg so you'll want to go left first to get a clear shot to the green. The second hole is where you'll get your first introduction to the water hazards. The green is surrounded by a small lake, so it's best to take a short first shot and then iron on to the green from there. The third hole has a lake in the middle of the fairway. It's easy to end up smack in the middle unless you have a really long drive.
The fifth hole is possibly the most challenging one on the course. We recommend a short drive off the tee to avoid the water hazard. Then a short iron to get over staying a little to left. From there, you'll be faced with a dogleg to the right, and another water hazard by the green. Play this one safe to avoid ruining your score.
The back nine aren't much easier and the 18th hole can be a real killer. Watch out for the lake to the right of the green!

May 20th, 2008 — CA, Roseville, Ted Robinson, golf courses

Diamond Oaks Golf Course is located in: Roseville, CA
Phone: 916-783-4947
Website: http://www.roseville.ca.us/parks/golf_roseville/diamond_oaks_golf_course/
Course History:
Ted Robinson designed this municipal course which is open to the public. It's combination of great rates and challenging play has made this one of the most popular courses in the area. It's a bit out of the way, but well worth the trip. The course opened in 1963 and is very popular to this day.
What You Need to Know:
You can register your tee time online or by phone. Since this is such an economical course it is usually quite busy especially on weekends. It's best to call ahead or reserve online so that you can lock in your spot.
Even though this is a municipal course there are plenty of amenities, and more than you would expect given their low prices. A PGA pro is on staff for lessons and numerous events are held here throughout the year. It's a fun course to play and although pros may not find it terribly challenging, it is friendly for players of all skill levels. The course is also home to the Roseville Golf Club and there are numerous benefits to becoming a member.
The website for the course often posts specials and you can learn more about the events that are held here every year. There are numerous leagues and clubs that call this course home and it's a great event course if you like to observe tournaments. You can also learn more about their membership passes and the other amenities offered to visitors of all skill levels.
Playing Hints:
There are only three main water hazards here and they aren't terribly difficult to master. You'll want to pay special attention to the lake on the seventh hole. If you stray too far right on the fairway, it's very easy to end up right in the middle of the lake.
The course is pretty straightforward and doesn't offer many sneaky tricks. There is a bit of a gentle dog leg on the first hole, so you'll want to keep to the left off of the tees. The fairways are a bit narrow so it's a good idea to try to keep your shots as accurate as possible. The sloping greens can be a bit of a challenge for novices, but overall this is a fun course that won't take too long to master.

Woodcreek Golf Club is located in: Roseville, CA
Phone: 916-783-4947
Website: http://www.roseville.ca.us/parks/golf_roseville/woodcreek_golf_club
Course History:
This is a sister course to the Diamond Oaks golf course located in the same city. Robert Muir Graves also designed this one and it first opened for business in 1995. It's a little more difficult that Diamond Oaks and pros tend to prefer this course since it is a bit more challenging. That being said, the course is still friendly for players of all skill levels and novices should not have too much difficulty keeping up.
What You Need to Know:
You can register your tee time using their online registration system or by calling the number we have listed above. This is a popular course in the area since it is quite economical, so you may want to reserve your tee time by at least two weeks in advance. Check their website for more information on specials and on their passes which can make it even cheaper to play here.
Although this is a municipal course we still recommend using soft spikes and wearing appropriate golf attire. Denim is usually frowned upon as are cutoffs and tank tops. It's best to wear a collared shirt and slacks just in case.
The course is set in a native wetland so it can be a bit challenging at times. However, after your round you can rest up in the terrific clubhouse or see what the well stocked pro shop has to offer. For the money, this is definitely one of the best courses in the bay area.
Playing Hints:
This is a championship level course so you're going to want to bring your best game with you. There are numerous water hazards and bunkers on nearly every hole so accuracy is truly key.
The first hole has a sharp dog leg, but you're really going to want to pay attention by the time you reach the fifth, eighth and ninth holes on this course. They all have some hefty lakes and the wrong shot can end up ruining your score. The ninth hole is truly a monster that dog legs left and then right. You'll want to hit this one off the tee a little to the left so that you have a clear line of sight to the green. The green on the eighteenth hole is surrounded by bunkers and a water hazard but with practice you can easily master this one and even get a birdie.
