Course History:

Incline Village is home to two fantastic golf courses, but we’re going to focus on the Mountain Course for this review. This is as the name would suggest, a beautifully hilly course that is quite challenging for many players but definitely fun for all. Although this is a short par 58, you’re going to get quite a workout on the hills. The course opens in May, and is a great place to have a little fun and relax.

What You Need to Know:

Robert Trent Jones designed this beautiful course and it is a true testament to his strengths as a designer. With the just the right amount of difficulty, most players should find that with a little practice they can come close to par. There is a dress code at this course and all players are asked to wear collared shirts. No denim, cut offs or tank tops are allowed.

The driving range has 28 stalls and opens a half hour before the first tee time and closes a half hour after the last tee time. It’s a great place to work on your swing and the practice bunkers will get you ready for your round of golf. Lessons are available from the club pros and the pro shop is very well stocked.

The club frequently runs specials, so it’s a good idea to check their website before booking your tee time. You can register your tee time by calling ahead to the pro shop or by using their online system.

Playing Hints:

Most of the holes on this course are very straightforward and you won’t have to worry about dealing with dog legs. However, you are going to be dealing with some pretty incredible hills so we really recommend taking advantage of a golf cart. Creeks are the main water hazard and they bisect several holes. You’ll want to have a really strong tee shot on the fourth and sixth hole, but for the seventeenth and tenth holes, you may want to shorten up your drive and use an iron to get over the creek.

The eighth hole is a great place to get your score back up on the front nine and on the back nine you’ll also have a good chance of birdie-ing the fifteenth and eighteenth holes. This is a well balanced course, even though it is short, and it should be suitable for most levels of players. Keep in mind that it takes around two or three rounds to get the feel of the course.

Course History:

By far, this is one of the finest courses in the Lake Tahoe area and it is well worth the trip. The Championship Course offers all players just enough of a challenge without being terribly difficult. Although novices may prefer the other course, it’s well worth the time spent trying to get a par on this one. Those who do make the trip find themselves going back again and again.

Robert Trent Jones had this to say about this course: “the ideal mountain layout with a challenge you won’t want to miss and views you will never forget”

What You Need to Know:

The course does ask that all players replace any divots that they create. They enforce this policy, so please keep this in mind and comply with their request. Men must wear collared shirts while women are allowed to wear appropriate golf shirts. Please keep in mind that no denim, tee shirts or tank tops are allowed on the course. In addition, all players must have their own set of clubs. If you do not own a set or do not wish to bring your own, rentals are available.

Tee times can be reserved online or by phone and may be held up to seven days in advance. This is a very popular course, so it is definitely a good idea to make your reservation ahead of time.

The pro shop is incredibly well stocked and the course serves breakfast and lunch every day. There are also snack bars that come in handy if you get hungry on the course. Overall, the amenities are simply terrific at this course.

Playing Hints:

Stamina is the key to this course as well as accuracy. The entire course was remodeled in 2004 and the result is fantastic. The bunkers are the main issue for most players, and you’ll need to make sure that you keep your shots as close to the center of the fairway as possible. There are numerous water hazards, and you’ll need to watch out for the creek on the first and second holes. It bisects both so make sure you hit a long shot off the tees.

Holes 11, 12 and 13 all have a dog leg and it can be a bit difficult to master these three holes. Your best bet is to stick to the right and use your irons to get to the green after your second shot.

Course History:

This is a gorgeous course that has much to offer golfers of all skill levels. It has been ranked number 5 on the Golf Digest list of the top 100 courses in the world and with good reason. If you are planning a trip to Pebble Beach or you just want to play a round of golf, this is definitely a course that everyone should try at least once.

The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1966. If you’re playing from the championship tees this is considered to be one of the absolute toughest courses in the world. The course is home to many tournaments throughout the year and is extremely popular.

What You Need to Know:

Since this is such a popular course, it’s a good idea to register your tee time in advance. Whether you’re planning a vacation or just stopping by, you’re going to want to lock in your time. You can watch the live web cam of the course right from their website to get an idea of what you’re getting into before you get there.

The amenities as one would expect are absolutely top notch and the views are incredible. Please use your best golf etiquette on the course and follow all PGA rules. The dress code is pretty strict and collared shirts and trousers are an absolute must.

Playing Hints:

As mentioned previously, this is an incredibly challenging course. Accuracy is going to be the key to mastering it, as well as the right combination of clubs and power. The first hole is a killer dog leg that leads you to numerous bunkers before the green. You’re also going to want to watch out for the third hole which looks much like a hopscotch game. You may want to use your irons to go from fairway to fairway and avoid the rough here.

On the thirteenth hill, you’ll have an uphill shot so give it all you’ve got. The green is also uphill, so you’ll want to really line up your approach for the best results. The eighteenth hole is no relaxer either, you’re going to need to watch out for the trees and the rough which can really throw you off.
