Course History:

The Del Monte Course at Pebble Beach is one of the oldest courses in California. It first opened in 1897 and has since become an institution. Charles Maud designed this course which is known for its wandering fairways and challenging level of play. Golfers always come back to this course to give it another chance. Novices however may find this to be the easiest of the three golf courses at Pebble Beach, but that’s only when comparing them. It’s a challenging course but the scenery makes it very worthwhile.

What You Need to Know:

There is a dress code here, and you will need to wear a collared shirt and trousers. PGA rules are strictly enforced. This course is home to numerous tournaments and its always a good idea to go observe before playing this course. You can learn a lot by watching how other players handle the narrow fairways and challenging greens. The pro shop is fantastic here and the Del Monte Bar and Grill serves some incredible food. It’s open for breakfast and lunch all year round and is well worth the trip.

Playing Hints:

The first hole is a great start and the par five is pretty easy to attain. It’s a straightforward hole, but you’re going to want to stay as close to the center of the fairway as you can. The sixth hole is a par three that looks very easy but it’s simple to miss the green. Try underdoing your drive just a bit to avoid this problem. The tenth hole is going to require an iron approach if you want to be accurate. It’s best to try for par on this one instead of going for the birdie unless you are a pro. Otherwise you can quickly end up way over par. The fourteenth hole is one of the original holes that hasn’t changed much since 1897. Keep in mind that the green really slopes, even though it doesn’t look like it at first. The seventeenth and eighteenth holes are real killers, so save up your strength to tackle these. Once again, accuracy and placement are the keys if you want to par these holes. It’s best to err on the side of caution here.

Course History:

This is a gorgeous course that has much to offer golfers of all skill levels. It has been ranked number 5 on the Golf Digest list of the top 100 courses in the world and with good reason. If you are planning a trip to Pebble Beach or you just want to play a round of golf, this is definitely a course that everyone should try at least once.

The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1966. If you’re playing from the championship tees this is considered to be one of the absolute toughest courses in the world. The course is home to many tournaments throughout the year and is extremely popular.

What You Need to Know:

Since this is such a popular course, it’s a good idea to register your tee time in advance. Whether you’re planning a vacation or just stopping by, you’re going to want to lock in your time. You can watch the live web cam of the course right from their website to get an idea of what you’re getting into before you get there.

The amenities as one would expect are absolutely top notch and the views are incredible. Please use your best golf etiquette on the course and follow all PGA rules. The dress code is pretty strict and collared shirts and trousers are an absolute must.

Playing Hints:

As mentioned previously, this is an incredibly challenging course. Accuracy is going to be the key to mastering it, as well as the right combination of clubs and power. The first hole is a killer dog leg that leads you to numerous bunkers before the green. You’re also going to want to watch out for the third hole which looks much like a hopscotch game. You may want to use your irons to go from fairway to fairway and avoid the rough here.

On the thirteenth hill, you’ll have an uphill shot so give it all you’ve got. The green is also uphill, so you’ll want to really line up your approach for the best results. The eighteenth hole is no relaxer either, you’re going to need to watch out for the trees and the rough which can really throw you off.

Course History:

This Scottish style course is absolutely incredible and all golfers should try to play here at least once in their lives. The ocean breezes and true Scottish fairways make this a real challenge, particularly if you are not used to playing a coastal course.

What You Need to Know:

This course has environmentally friendly areas that make the play even more challenging. Please be advised of these areas and note that you may not enter them. Drops are allowed to avoid entering these locations.

The practice facilities here are top notch and it’s a good idea to give them a try before heading out on the course. Please be advised that there is a dress code and collared shirts and trousers are a must. Please follow all PGA rules on this course and keep in mind that it is one of the most prestigious courses in the world.

Playing Hints:

The sandy terrain and the wind make this course a little tough to get used to at first. No one manages to master it the first time around, so you’ll want to plan to play at least three rounds if you’re serious about taking this course on. It is a lot of fun however and the scenery is stunning.

The first hole is a par five that gives you a great start. If you’ve got some skill you may even be able to birdie this hole. But watch out for the third hole which is a deceptively easy par three. Try a pitch and run shot to master this one. The seventh hole faces the water and you’ll be dealing with numerous bunkers all the way to the green. Accuracy really counts on this hole.

The twelfth hole is very long and incredibly narrow. You’re going to need to really hit this one off the tee and try to keep as close to the center of the fairway as possible. You really don’t want to end up in the rough on this one. The fifteenth hole is a real killer and you’ll need to hit a long tee shot to make it to the center island fairway, and then another long shot to get to the island green. The rough in between each island is not where you want to be on this course.
