Course History:

This course was designed by Keith Foster and is considered to be one of the more unique courses in the area. This is not a course you’ll only want to play once. After you finish your first round, chances are, you’ll be coming back again and again.

Since it opened in 2002, it has been showered with accolades. Golf Magazine named it in the top ten Courses You Can Play while Golf Digest stated it was one of the most affordable public courses in the area. The 7000 yard Par 72 course was designed with the elements in mind and they worked very hard to leave the natural beauty of the location in place. The result is a visually stunning course that is challenging and fun to play.

What You Need to Know:

This course does have a dress code and they ask that you wear a collared shirt. They do however allow dress denim, but no cutoffs please. No alcohol or coolers are allowed on the course. The club house does serve plenty of food and drink so you can stock up there.

You can register your tee time up to thirty days in advance by calling the number listed above. You can also book your tee time using their online registration system. This course is home to numerous events throughout the year, so it is a good idea to check with the course to make sure it is available.

The practice facilities are incredible here and very popular. The pro shop has all the latest gear and apparel and lessons are also available. This is definitely a course that you should make time to visit.

Playing Hints:

The holes here are pretty straightforward and well suited to both professionals and novices. Water hazards are kept to a minimum and include a creek that goes through several holes. However, it is not terribly wide so it does not pose a problem for most players. The bunkers however are another matter entirely. Choose your approach shot well or you could end up deeply in the hole.

The rough is incredibly rough on this course so you’re going to want to really work on your accuracy. Try to stay as close to the center of the fairways as possible, but watch out for the trees. They can throw off even the best players.

The eighth hole is possibly one of the most challenging on the course. You’ll be hopping over the rough to get to each section of the fairway and another patch separates the green. Do your best to get a really long drive off the tee and then use your nine iron to make it on to the green from there.

Course History:

This course was first built in 1958 and became very popular due to its low rates and terrific play. They are very friendly to players of all skill levels and the prices really are incredibly reasonable for an 18 hole course. The pro shop is completely stocked the grill has some of the best food in the area.

What You Need to Know:

There are a few rules that you’ll need to know before you play here. First, it’s best to wear a collared shirt and please keep in mind that this is a soft spike course. Change out your metal spikes before arriving. They do not allow ice chests or any alcoholic beverages and they ask that all players respect the course. Course marshals frequently patrol the area, so it’s best to keep these rules in mind.

In addition, they also ask that only licensed drivers operate the golf carts. All players must have their own set of clubs. If you don’t have your own set, you can rent one from the pro shop. Tee times can be reserved by calling the number listed above. Check out their website for their frequent specials if you want to save even more money.

Playing Hints:

This is a nice straightforward course that is suitable for most players. Pros will find it challenging enough while novices won’t be too intimidated. The second hole is a bit tricky, but you can make up any lost ground on the short par three on the next hole. Most players are able to birdie this hole if they hit their tee shot right. The sixth hole is a challenging par five but if you keep to the center of the fairway and avoid the rough you should be ok. The last two holes are par threes that look easy, but make sure you hit your shots just hard enough to avoid going over the greens.

Pebble Beach Golf Course - Del Monte Course

The Del Monte Course is located in Pebble Beach, CA

Website: http://www.pebblebeach.com

Course History:

The Del Monte Course at Pebble Beach is one of the oldest courses in California. It first opened in 1897 and has since become an institution. Charles Maud designed this course which is known for its wandering fairways and challenging level of play. Golfers always come back to this course to give it another chance. Novices however may find this to be the easiest of the three golf courses at Pebble Beach, but that’s only when comparing them. It’s a challenging course but the scenery makes it very worthwhile.

What You Need to Know:

There is a dress code here, and you will need to wear a collared shirt and trousers. PGA rules are strictly enforced. This course is home to numerous tournaments and its always a good idea to go observe before playing this course. You can learn a lot by watching how other players handle the narrow fairways and challenging greens. The pro shop is fantastic here and the Del Monte Bar and Grill serves some incredible food. It’s open for breakfast and lunch all year round and is well worth the trip.

Playing Hints:

The first hole is a great start and the par five is pretty easy to attain. It’s a straightforward hole, but you’re going to want to stay as close to the center of the fairway as you can. The sixth hole is a par three that looks very easy but it’s simple to miss the green. Try underdoing your drive just a bit to avoid this problem. The tenth hole is going to require an iron approach if you want to be accurate. It’s best to try for par on this one instead of going for the birdie unless you are a pro. Otherwise you can quickly end up way over par. The fourteenth hole is one of the original holes that hasn’t changed much since 1897. Keep in mind that the green really slopes, even though it doesn’t look like it at first. The seventeenth and eighteenth holes are real killers, so save up your strength to tackle these. Once again, accuracy and placement are the keys if you want to par these holes. It’s best to err on the side of caution here.
