Course History:

This course was designed by the renowned architect William Bell and first opened in 1965. It is easily one of the best courses in the Bay Area and offers quite a challenge to most players without being too intimidating. Golf Digest named this course one of the top 75 courses of all time and it is frequently mentioned in the yearly round ups of the best courses in the world.

What You Need to Know:

This a course that is known to either reward you or pay you back, depending on how well you play. If you are fairly accurate, you shouldn’t have many problems. If not, be prepared for a long haul. We’ll get into some playing tips here in a second. The course allows you to book your tee time online or you can call and reserve it by phone.

It’s best to adhere to regular golf attire and wear a collared shirt with slacks. The course offers top notch practice facilities that are open every day. The clubhouse is full service and serves meals as well as drinks. Most players love to stop in the pro shop each time they go in for the incredible selection and the new arrivals.

This is a frequent destination for tournaments and special events, so you’ll definitely want to call ahead before heading out. Check their website for more information about some terrific upcoming tournaments you may not want to miss.

Playing Hints:

There are only three water hazards here and they aren’t too difficult, which is a good thing considering the amount of bunkers. We mentioned earlier that this is a course that loves to play poor players back and we really weren’t kidding. You’ll want to avoid these deadly bunkers at all costs. If necessary, play on the safe side until you can iron onto the green.

Although the holes are very straightforward, each one has no fewer than two bunkers that flank the green. They are deep and they are nasty. Play cautiously and choose your shots well. The one hole you really need to look out for is the seventh hole which is considered the most difficult for men and women. The key is to play right of center for your first two shots. From there, you’ll have a clear view of how to make it onto the green without hitting the bunkers.
