San Diego Golf Academy — the Best Golf College

Golf Instructor If the sport of golf is your passion in life, you need to consider attending the San Diego Golf Academy.  Through programs of study at the San Diego Golf Academy (SDGA), you will gain both practical experience and a thorough understanding of the golf business.  Graduates of SDGA can turn their love of golf into life-long careers.

San Diego Golf Academy has been in operation for over 30 years.  SDGA placement directors find a great majority of their over 6000 graduates in a golf career, procuring jobs in the golf industry.  SDGA even has a unique online program called GolFutures.  This is a nationwide resource for jobs in the golf industry which SDGA has been operating since 1991.  So, not only do graduates have access to excellent career counseling, but alumni can also utilize GolFutures as they advance their careers in the golf industry.

While the SDGA does not guarantee job placement for graduates, the golf college does have an incredibly high job placement rate.  Job counselors assist graduates in writing resumes and preparing for interviews.  Faculty members at SDGA are also willing to serve as references for students and to write recommendations to help students obtain jobs.   And, they are successful in finding jobs in the golf industry for nearly 90% of their graduates within 6 months of graduation.

There are four campus locations of the SDGA.  These are located in California, Arizona, Florida, and South Carolina.  Tuition is about $28,000.  But, financial aid is available for students, just as it is for other colleges and schools.  The SDGA Financial Aid office can assist students in applying for financial assistance.  Students may be eligible for grants and loans.

Students at SDGA major in Golf Complex Operations & Management.  But, students can opt to focus their studies on either the Golf Professional courses or the Golf Management courses-or, they can have a dual emphasis.  No matter what area of focus a student chooses, the program is still the same in length.  Students graduate after 2 years, or 16 consecutive months, with an Associate Degree.

Unlike many golf schools, SDGA doesn’t stop at offering students the opportunity to earn an Associates Degree.   Students can continue their education through a partnership SDGA has formed with Virginia College.  Through this program, students can earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Golf Course Management within 2 years.  And, what’s great about this program is that students can earn this degree while they are working in the golf industry because the Virginia College program is online.

SDGA is a fully accredited college by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).  This means that the SDGA is authorized to award Associate Degrees and that the degrees given by the SDGA will be nationally recognized as authentic.

Beginning a career in the golf industry is ideal for anyone who has a strong love of the sport.  And attending the San Diego Golf Academy is the perfect way to get the necessary education to get hired.  SDGA has everything a person needs-and more.

River Oaks Golf Course, Nicolaus, CA

River Oaks Golf Course is located in: Nicolaus, CA

Phone: 916.488.4653

Website: http://www.riveroaksgolfclub.net

Course History:

The course is located on the historic Nicolaus Ranch that dates back to the early 1800’s. It was formerly known as the Rio La Paz Course but was recently renamed. It is a favorite among locals and everyone appreciates how well the course is kept and the friendly atmosphere. For a course of this quality the rates are surprisingly low.

With more than 6500 yards, this par 71 course offers a terrific challenge for players of all skill levels and a very enjoyable round of golf. It is very quiet here and retains much of the tranquility that drew the initial settlers to this area. It is a little tucked away from the beaten path so we have included directions for you below.

What You Need to Know:

This is a terrific course that is meant for those who truly love the game of golf. You won’t get a lot of frills, just some good old fashioned links. There are numerous water hazards to avoid, which we’ll get into in the next section.

Playing Hints:

Accuracy is definitely the key to mastering this course. You’re going to want to stay as close to the middle of the fairways as you can since the rough can be quite challenging. The first hole is easy enough, but the bunkers on the second hole can throw anyone off. Try to go a little to the left to avoid these.

The fourth hole is a very long par five that is nearly impossible to eagle unless you know what you’re doing. The course states that even the best drivers typically have another 240 yards to go before they get to the green. You’ll want to give this shot everything you’ve got. The water hazards to watch out for on the rest of the front nine include a very tricky fifth, sixth and seventh hole.

The twelfth hole is incredibly challenging and may take a few tries just to get around the water hazard that surrounds the green. Do your best to clear your second shot to avoid losing one here. The rest of the course is pretty straightforward and you should have plenty of opportunities to make up some shots on the seventeenth and eighteenth holes.

Haggin Oaks Golf Course is located in: Sacramento, CA

Website: http://www.hagginoaks.com/

Course History:

Haggin Oaks is known as the one of the oldest and most respected courses in the Bay Area. Numerous PGA events have been held here since it opened in 1932 and it has seen numerous champions find their way to victory. The two courses are well appointed and cared for and for the money, this is definitely one of the best values in the region.

What You Need to Know:

You can register your tee time online or by calling ahead to the phone number listed above. Although they don’t specifically state that there is a dress code, you are best served by wearing a collared shirt and trousers. This is a very traditional course, and you’ll need to make sure that you observe their rules, replace your divots and keep your playing speed up.

Playing Hints:

Although there are two courses at this location, we’re going to focus on the 18 hole Alistair McKenzie course for this review. The nine hole course is terrific if you’re looking for a quick but challenging game. For the 18 holes, you really won’t have to deal with many water hazards. There is one lake but it is far enough away from the fairways that it shouldn’t pose any problems for anyone. The first five holes are very straightforward, but be prepared for the severe dog leg on the sixth hole. You’ll want to go left and then right with your second shot.

The remainder of the holes are very straightforward and although they are a little long, most players should not have any difficulty mastering them.
